Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, claims his team is now regarded as “one of the best in Europe” and is eager to secure a significant trophy to establish their elite status.

Under Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal has achieved one FA Cup victory and two FA Community Shield wins, alongside a second-place finish in the Premier League over the past three seasons.

Although he hasn’t secured a lot of trophies during his tenure, Arteta feels that Arsenal has undergone a “transformation” since he took charge.

“I invest my passion, energy, knowledge, and everything I can into this club,” Arteta shared with ESPN Brasil. “I believe we have significantly changed the club and its position today.”

“When examining the last three Premier League seasons, we have amassed the most points, but we still need to win major titles.”

He added, “The bond with the fans has improved. Arsenal is certainly one of Europe’s top teams right now, but we need to finalize our success.”

This summer, Arteta focused on taking the next step by signing striker Viktor Gyökeres for €63 million ($74 million) and adding players like Noni Maduke, Martín Zubimendi, Christian Mosquera, and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

“This summer was a chance for us to rest and recover, but we also worked intensely to build a stronger, higher-quality team,” Arteta remarked.

“This season is going to be thrilling, as it’s a typical league, considering the level of each team.”

The highlight of the transfer window is undoubtedly Gyökeres, as Arsenal has struggled with depth in the striker position due to injuries during Arteta’s tenure, with midfielder Mikel Merino filling in at times last season.

Gyökeres netted 54 goals across all competitions while at Sports CP last season, and Arteta is confident he can replicate that form in the Premier League.

“We have added exceptional players. His recent statistics are impressive, and we needed to bolster this area of our squad,” Arteta explained.

“Last season, a crucial player was sidelined for four to five months, which is not sustainable at this level. Therefore, we required a player with the personality to manage the pressure that comes with this shirt.”

“Viktor possesses all of that.”

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer enthusiasts because it signals a shift in Arsenal’s ambitions and the potential resurgence of a storied club. A successful season could reshape the competitive landscape of European football, making this an exciting time for fans of the sport.
