Eric Carlson’s Possible Suitor Secures Defenseman Signing This Friday

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Eric Carlson is actively available in the trade market this offseason, but general manager Kyle Dubas has yet to receive an offer that meets his expectations. Carlson, who has two years remaining on his contract, is open to relinquishing his no-trade clause in pursuit of his first Stanley Cup victory.

The Detroit Red Wings, aiming to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season, have been in search of a right-shot defenseman following roster moves made in early July. They plan to add Hamonic to their defensive lineup alongside Moritz Seider, Justin Holl, and Jacob Bernard-Docker. While the Red Wings have the salary cap space to take on Carlson’s contract, they already have a surplus of right-handed defensemen and would need to trade at least one player back to the Penguins for a deal to happen.

Other teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators have also been mentioned as potential interested parties, although it remains uncertain if they are in active negotiations with Pittsburgh. With just a month left before training camp kicks off, it will be interesting to see if Dubas finally receives an offer that appeals to Carlson.

Fan Take: This ongoing trade saga is crucial for hockey fans as it highlights the strategic moves teams make to chase the Stanley Cup. Carlson’s potential relocation could significantly impact team dynamics and playoff outcomes, making it a storyline worth following closely this offseason.
