Marco Penge Birdies 18 to win the Danish Golf Championship

COPENHAGEN – British golfer Markopenge tapped a birdie on hole 18 to win the Danish golf championship on Sunday, winning the stroke of Rasmus Hojard.

Hojgaard was sought for his home country title when he supplied a four-shot lead midway through his front nine.

Penge was walking par 5 18th on a two-shot cushion with Hodge Guard in the final pairing, but saw his partner roll from 10 feet of the crowd to Eagle Putt at Furesø Golf Klub in Copenhagen.

97th place Penge had to drill a birdie putt from 3 feet for the victory, and he shot a 4-under 67, finished at 16 under, and got nervous to win the second DP World Tour title. Both victories will be held this year, with the first win at Hainan Classic in April.

Højgaard (69) is runner-up and will remain outside the six automatic qualifying spots just behind No. 6 Cepstraca in the race to join the European team in the Ryder Cup at Beth Page Black next month.

There will be one qualifying event left for both players next week. Højgaard will play for the British Masters on the DP World Tour, while Straka will play for the PGA Tour in the Tour Championship.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
