Manchester United legend Gary Neville has revealed that his old club will need to sign a new goalkeeper after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
Riccardo Calafiori has won the Gunners after a terrible error by Man UTD goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
Bayindir started through Andre Onana, who is also a rather poor performer in the recent Red Devils performer, so it’s not too surprising that Neville wants a new “keeper join.”
Speaking after the game, Neville named Aston Villa shot stopper Emiliano Martinez as the ideal signature that will become United’s new number one.
Gary Neville urges Man United to sign Emiliano Martinez
“There’s an obvious problem that Manchester United can’t ignore. It’s that they need to find a goalkeeper,” Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast.
“It needs to be sorted by a permanent signature or loan. The two that you’ve seen mentioned in the past few weeks are Martinez and Donnaruma.”
He added: “We’ve seen Martinez play in the World Cup final, they play under extreme pressure and can handle that, and Man United need it.
“I think they need to sort out the goalkeepers because they keep acknowledging their goals and points, and undermine what you are doing.
“I’ve been saying that for years, you need personality, personality and stability in that position. I think United will need to deal with it in the coming weeks.”
Positive from United’s defeat to Arsenal
Without the errors by Bayindir, we could have seen United Beat Arsenal today.
MUFC dominated much of the game, and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had to make some great saves to save his clean sheet.
If United had a little more luck in front of goals with someone like Martinez, then there’s definitely going to be a decent team creation out there.
