The first round of the 105th Wisconsin State Open was shortened due to the August 18 storm, with 35 golfers on the 186 field having to finish the August 19 round.

However, several players, including all leaders, took advantage of the right side of the draw. This is a group that includes four past champions in the top 10.

2013-17 Oconomebok’s professional Sam Weatherhead, who played for Michigan State, scored seven birdies against one bogey to take a complete lead with a 6-under par 66 on the Meadow Valleys course at Kohler’s Black Ulfran.

Weatherhead is looking for his first state open title. He finished 10th In 2024, after he was tied up by a lead heading into the final round.

Weatherhead birded par 4, 18th The hole is aimed at gaining a one-shot lead over 2023 champion Cameron Hass. Huss, who won the event as an amateur and now an expert, made six birdies for one bogey on his way to a 5-under par 67.

Additionally, Huss has played in three events on the Korn Ferry Tour so far in 2025, but missed the cut every time.

Amateur Cade Weeland reached 5 under and defeated the sunset to complete the round. He birded three of the last eight holes, tied Huss second.

Amateur Jacob Beckman is alone in fourth after shooting a 4-under 68, but Tyler Leach finished 3-under.

Past champions Daniel Mazziotta (2022) and Jordan Elsen (2016) and amateur Mason Schmidtke remained impressive distance from leaders, finishing the state’s open round in the 2-under 70s.

Charlie Delsman finishes the day with a 1-under 71, tied with two-time champions Harrison Otto and Emmett Herb in ninth place, but the latter two players will need to finish the round on August 19th.

Past champion Jordanney Burgge (2011), who is now assistant coach of the Marquette University men’s golf team, shot an even 72.

The reboot time for players to finish the first round is 7:15am. The second round time will begin at 8am, 45 minutes late, with new tee times posted at www.wisconsin.pga.com. Two players withdrew from the competition in the first round.

State Open is a 4-round event that took place over three days, with 72 holes at the Meadow Valleys (first, third and fourth) and a River course (second round) at Blackwolf Run. The field is cut into a tie with a 60 score after the completion of the second round.

The final 36 holes will be played on the Meadow Valleys course on August 20th.
