Last week, Leeds completed the departure of Mateo Joseph, who joined La Ligaside Mallorca on an in-season loan. The 21-year-old was strongly linked to his travels away from Elland Road over the summer, and his return to his hometown of Spain was eventually completed.
Joseph made his Mallorca debut over the weekend in a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona, coming as a halftime replacement. And although it was his tough first match for him returning to Spanish football, he enjoys living in the country he was born in.
Mateo Joseph opens up to Leeds by being unhappy
(via Leedsunited.news) In an interview with Athletic, Joseph revealed that he enjoys more in Mallorca compared to his past years on Elland Road.
“Here (in Mallorca), they gave me a sense of very closeness to me, very honest people, people who are confident. I’m very pleased with the confidence they have in me. My parents are very happy.
“The past two years have been extremely tough. My parents have noticed that I don’t enjoy playing football at the club level. Now they say they see me differently.
Joseph is still signed with Leeds, but there are all the chances he’s already playing his final match with the club. Whether it’s staying in Mallorca or another club, it’s no surprise to see him leave permanently in 2026. Anyway, his comments can make it difficult for him to come back.
