After her French Open victory, Coco Gough, who took a disappointing performance at Wimbledon, fired individual coach Matthew Daly before singleplayer at the US Open. The 21-year-old American previously condemned his first round defeat in London The world’s second player on mental fatigueAfter managing six winners and 29 forced errors against Dayana Yasutermska.

“As for Coco, there’s nothing more than a good thing about her that I enjoyed working with her,” Daly said in an interview with tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg.

Currently ranked third, Gauff is the third player as he won the French Open after losing in the first round at Wimbledon in the 1968 era.

Goff hasn’t looked confident in her serve since beating Alina Sabalenka with Clay earlier this summer. She previously won three games in the US Open Tune-up at the Cincinnati Open, but lost to Italian Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round.

Last week in Cincinnati, Gough said he was practicing patience on the rest of the season.

“For me, it’s about to forget about the loss, but I remember how I lost it,” Gouf said. “With victory, I’m trying to celebrate myself a bit, but I’m a very perfectionist type of person, so there’s nothing satisfying until I hold a big trophy.

Gauff split as a coach last year from tennis pro Blood Gilbert before hiring grip specialist Daly. Gouff won the US Open in 2023 and will play at an exhibition event at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday night.

“To be honest, it feels like I’m under the microscope with my whole career with things on and off the court,” Gauff told the Cincinnati Open. “I think winning the slams defines whether you’re having a good year or not. It’s not just for me. It just goes to all the players. Tennis fans want to win every week, but we’ve been playing for 11 months. That’s not that easy.”
