Tottenham is aiming to return to the market for new playmakers and put the Ebebeki Eze disaster behind them.
Spurs’ transfer plans were brutal hit after losing to Eze mid-week.
Daniel Levy has designated Crystal Palace star as his next Marquee Summer signature. This is a creative spark to ease the loss of my son Heungmin and cover James Madison’s devastating ACL damage. However, when they appeared to be in pole position, Arsenal made their move.
Gunner began meetings with the palace and quickly accelerated negotiations. Having scored 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season, Eze agreed to the Switch despite shaking personal terms with Thomas Frank’s side.
“The Spurs agreed to the terms of the palace today and agreed with Eze. The player was ready to come to Tottenham. The palace had not finalized the deal because they wanted him to be available to him in the European match tomorrow night,” said Alasdair Gold at X.
“Then Arsenal came late this afternoon – I agree with the terms of the palace – and the players chose Arsenal for their connection with them.”
For Tottenham, it’s a gut punch. The club had identified Eze as a player who puts a creative burden, especially after Madison’s long-term set-off left a big hole in the No. 10 role.
Losing him to his North London rival is simply rubbing more salt in the wound, especially after laying the foundations behind the scenes.
The Spurs are currently scrambling for alternatives, but do not hide their frustration. Eze ticks all the boxes: proven Premier League quality, versatility at the forefront, and confidence to offer in big moments. His numbers at the Palace speak volume, but it’s his ability to slide past defenders and unlock the stubborn backline that Frank misses most.
Anyone who comes in Eze’s place is important, and there are people who the Tottenham recruitment team wants to sign seriously.
Tottenham thinks Morgan Rogers is the “perfect” Ebeki Eze alternative
Speaking on his YouTube channel after Eze’s move to Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano shared that their dream number 10 choice is Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
The English winger, worth around £80 million, has a real admirer for the Spurs, earning sensational 14 goals and 16 assists in all previous tournaments as a key offensive star for Unai Emery.
Romano sees Tottenham as the “perfect” candidate for the midfield role attacking Rogers, but as things stand, it’s a nearly impossible deal.
“They started making some calls today to try and understand the situations new players are adding to their team,” said a trusted journalist.
“One of the dream targets we have internally at Tottenham is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, but it is considered a very difficult deal because the villa doesn’t want to lose players.
“Those in the industry believe this deal is nearly impossible for Morgan Rogers, but we can say Tottenham considers him the perfect candidate.”
He mentions other candidates in his video, like Southampton’s Tyler Diving, but for Rogers there is no way, but highly intriguing prospects for an ambitious slow move.
