2025 Ryder Cup: Justin Thomas praises the US team for his commitment to Keegan Bradley in his call to not play as captain

The US Ryder Cup team will be officially set to Beth Page Black next month Keegan Bradley made six captain picks On Wednesday, he refused to become the first captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 and chose not to include himself. Instead, Bradley chose Justin Thomas, Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantray and Sam Burns.

Given that Bradley ranked 11th in the US Ryder Cup standings and previously ruled out the 2023 team, many have finally decided to represent the US in a dual role. Especially considering the thin margins, Americans are set to enter the Ryder Cup as a favourite of the thin -130 for each Fundaerel. Unsurprisingly, the hottest topic after Wednesday’s announcement was that Bradley did not choose himself after one of the best years of his performance career.

Bradley admitted that there was a short period after he won the Travelers Championship – he seriously considered adding himself to the team as a player. But as the years continued, peers like Young, Burns and Cantray began to make his decision to put aside as relatively “easy” players.

When asked how players felt about Bradley not playing, Thomas praised the captain for how he handled the process and how all the decisions he made focused on improving the team.

“You’ll be told many times from now until the end of Keegan. He’ll continue to do whatever he thinks is best for his team. That’s what he did,” Thomas said.

“It was a really, really cool process to be involved as a player. Everyone does it differently. Every captain is great in many ways, but communication and transparent Keegan has never experienced it before.

“It’s like the way he approached this whole captain. He wants to do the best for the team. He wants to convey everything he can. I know I’m doing everything for him, but I think we’re broken for him. That’s why.”

Bradley admitted that it was a difficult decision, but he also said that despite not making an announcement publicly, the choice not to play was “a while ago” and suggested by some, not within the final 48 hours after the tour championship. Perhaps this was all part of a plan to galvanize the team, so Bradley could put his fate into his own hands as captain in his own play, but instead chose to put his full faith in this group of 12.

“This year was really weird, to be honest. “I understand the weight and history and everything that comes with it. I was really focused on being a captain all year round. I wasn’t really thinking about playing until later (the Travelers Championship Bradley won), and it was really on the table for a while.

“I was really interested in being the best captain I could. In the end I felt really comfortable. I’m very comfortable. I feel like I can serve my team like this. As long as I win on Sunday, I don’t mind playing.

Bradley’s decisions come at risk. The struggle from the captain’s pick leads to speculation that Bradley played better in one of their spots. But that was clear from these comments – and What Scotty Scheffler and others said before – Bradley has loved this US team in the past past captain and has not given him the way he handled the entire process.
