No. 2 Iga Swiatek will roll into the 2025 Quarter Final

NEW YORK – Second Iga Swiatek beat Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-1 on Monday to make it to the US quarterfinals for the second year in a row.

SwiaTek won from 3-1 to 3-1 in the first set and revolved within 48 hours, beating Anna Kalinkaya after returning from 5-1.

“At first, it felt like she was playing really fast,” Swiatek said after her fourth match against No. 13 seed Alexandrova. “I wanted to find my rhythm, but later I felt like I was in my bubbles and zones.”

Swiatek has joined No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to reach more than the quarterfinal round in four Grand Slams this year. It was the first year that several women have done so since 2005 Lindsey Davenport and Maria Sharapova.

Swiatek is set to compete against America’s Amanda Anishimova. She made her appearance in the semi-finals after losing 6-0, 6-0 in the Wimbledon Finals. Anisimova moved No. 18 Beatiz Haddad Maia forward 6-0, 6-3.

Anisimova’s victory meant that all eight female quarterfinal scholars at this year’s US Open were former major finalists. It only happened two other times in Wimbledon in 1976 and 1981 during the women’s opening days.

Swiatek, 24, is hoping for the second US open title and the seventh title in the Grand Slam.

Osaka dominated Coco Gough 6-3, 6-2 in Monday’s much-anticipated showdown at Arthur Ash Stadium. Osaka will face No. 11 Carolina Mciba in the semi-final spot for the first time since 2021.

ESPN research and Associated Press contributed to this report.
