Fabrizio Romano confirmed Manchester United is interested in Conor Gallagher this summer, as reported last week Catch off side.

The Red Devils were one of the Premier League clubs eager to bring the £45 million rated Gallagher back to the UK, but Atletico Madrid rejected the former Chelseaman’s loan proposal.

Posting to X, Italian journalist Romano explained that Man Utd asked about Gallagher, but Atletico was not keen to allow him to move temporarily.

Romano also confirmed that our sources have spoken to us about Crystal Palace, which is among Gallagher’s suitors during this summer’s transfer period, so please see below.

“Manchester United have made a loan proposal rejected by Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher,” Romano posted. “United asked for Gallagher, but Atleti had no plans to lend him out. Crystal Palace received the same answer a week ago.”

What I’ve reported at Conor Gallagher and Manchester United

Our info was that United were keen on Gallagher as they explored alternative midfield targets after missing out on Brighton’s Carlos Valleva.

The Palace was also said to be in the mix, as was Tottenham and Newcastle United, but in the end Atletico clearly preferred to keep England international.

Gallagher only joined Atletico about a year ago, and most of his days at Laliga are working well.

Still, it’s easy to imagine he might have been seduced to return to British football, and it appears he could have done his job for United and other clubs.

What will be next for Conor Gallagher?

It will be interesting to see if Gallagher will eventually return to the Premier League.

The second spell at Stamford Bridge seems unlikely, but there are probably Chelsea fans who were disappointed to see him go.

Meanwhile, United will likely revisit this deal instead as a top target or for others like Valeba and Adam Wharton.
