NEW YORK – Stacey Alaster was recognized by Carlos Alcaraz and Janik Sinner on Sunday after finishing his run as US Open Tournament Director.
Alastar, the first woman to take on that role, announced late last year that she would be transitioning from professional tennis chief executive of the American Tennis Association to an advisory role so that she could pursue other benefits.
Both finalists thanked her in a trophy presentation after Alcaraz defeated Thinner for the title.
Allaster joined the USTA in 2016 and became the US Open Tournament Director in 2020. Before that, she was the chairman and CEO of the WTA, which influenced the growth of women’s tennis and the awarding of equal prizes for women.
She helps in searching for a new tournament director.
