Rory McIlroy made a considerable return home from where he won the 2025 Irish Open on Sunday, just under two hours from where he grew up in Northern Ireland. He forced the playoffs by draining a 28-foot Eagle Putt into the 72nd hole in the regulations, and Ulsterman eventually sealed his second victory at the Irish Open in the third extra hole in the tournament.

McIlroy concluded with Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren, who headed straight with the winner of a Grand Slam career in the final round at K Club in Strafan, Kildare County, Ireland.

“I feel lucky enough to be able to do this in front of these people. The support has been amazing all week,” McIlroy said after raising the trophy. “We played the way this week and got a win.”

McIlroy and Lagergren matched the 6-under 66 on Sunday. Each got their first two playoff holes for Barroy for three consecutive times as Lager Glenn found a hazard in an approach shot to open the door.

“It’s a pretty cool year no matter what happens for the rest of the year, then do what I did earlier this year and then go home and win the National Open.

McIlroy won the Masters and completed his career grand slam with an Irish Open victory, serving as his first since April and the 4th.

“I thought it would obviously be a nice homecoming to bring a green jacket,” he said. “This is absolutely incredible and exceeds all my expectations… At moments like these, these are things you remember after your career is over. This is a truly special day.”
