Jack Draper was forced to break out of his second match at the US Open after a left arm injury left the rest of his tennis season.
The seventh-ranked player who reached the US Open semifinals last year suffered from injuries last year and was diagnosed with bone cleavage after losing to Marine Silick in the second round at Wimbledon.
“It’s very difficult to accept this year as we’ve built incredible momentum and played something amazing,” Draper said in a statement Monday. “But I’ve been through this before and I always come back strong because I have a willingness to realize my potential as a player.”
The 23-year-old Draper hadn’t played a single since Wimbledon due to an injury to his left upper arm, but managed to beat Federicoagustin Gomez in the opening round of the US Open before pulling out before the second round match.
