Former Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy believes his old club is eager to sign Alexander Isaac this summer, but he thinks it simply isn’t in control for them.
The gunners eventually strengthened in advance, taking Victor’s Gyoker from Sport Lisbon, and Isaac eventually left Newcastle United in the window for Liverpool.
Chrissy now admits that Arsenal looks like an adjustment to play with poachers like the line-leading gyoker, and he appears to think Isaac was considered a more ideal fit.
Swedish International demonstrated world-class ability at Newcastle, showing that it can do that in a week of Premier League level.
Isak will certainly be a great signing for Liverpool, but it seems unrealistic that Arsenal paid the kind of money he ultimately spent on.
Gael Clichy from Viktor Gyoker and Alexander Isak
Talking to Metro this summer about Arsenal’s gyoker’s signature, Chrissy said:
“I don’t think he’s like the kind of player Arsenal is used to. I don’t think he’ll provide what he needs on the link-up side of the game. I think someone like Isaac would have been better suited, but Arsenal would add something that he didn’t have.”
He added: “Arsenal certainly wanted Isaac. Every team loved him. But it was on someone who matched the price tag, so I don’t think Arsenal is ready to do that.
“It’s about who can spend the money in 2025. He’s a special player, but for Arsenal, when you look at the additions of Madueke and Eze, I feel it’s right that there’s always someone in the box.”
Who will score more goals this season? Isaac or gyokeres?
It will be interesting to see how ISAK rides in Liverpool and how Gyoker carries fares at Arsenal.
These are two exciting strikers with great scores for the past two seasons.
See below for how Isak numbers are clearly slightly lower, but Gyoker’s record is clearly slightly lower in the Portuguese League…
Player (2023-2025) | game | the goal |
Alexander Isaac | 82 | 52 |
Viktor | 102 | 97 |
Liverpool won the title last season. And certainly after such a powerful transfer window that not only brought them one of the best strikers in Europe in Isaac, but also brought other world-class talents like Florian Wiltz, Jeremy Fripon, Hugo Ekitique and more.
Arsenal was busy too, so we hope we can settle down well in the UK along with other new additions like Ebeki Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke.
