Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has garnered praise for his new signature, Piero Hincapy, as he explained why Gunner brought him this summer.
Ecuador International was impressed with former club Bayer Lebakusen. He is now the latest name through the doors of Emirates Stadium.
Hincapee can be filled with centre-backs or left-backs, which looks like a great addition to this Arsenal team to add even more quality strength.
Arteta addressed the diversity of that while explaining why Arsenal signed the 23-year-old at today’s press conference, he added that he was “prepared” in terms of making his debut for the club.
“He’s an player we’ve been monitoring for years and he’s now available,” Arteta said when asked about Hincapie early today.
Spanish tacticians continued to praise Hincapie’s versatility, claiming it would be an upgrade for what he was already defending.
Does Piero Hincapy play regularly for Arsenal?
Few people who have seen him play doubt his quality, but it’s probably hard to see how Hincapy fits Arteta’s side regularly.
Arsenal already has William Saliba and Gabriel Magalges as two first choice centre-backs, neither of which could soon lose their place.
As a reserve, the AFC can call on highly rated young centre-back Christian Mosquera.
On the left back, Arsenal has Ricardo Calfioli and Miles Lewis Skelly, so the two positions that Hincapy can play are already very well covered.
It would be interesting to see how talented young South America can establish themselves at Arsenal, but with so much competition it clearly isn’t easy.
But at the same time, Arsenal has already suffered injuries, including Saliba, which may mean that there will be a considerable number of opportunities for Hincapie throughout the campaign.
