  • Liverpool joins Man United in the Carlos Valleva Race
  • The Reds could have an advantage when signing Brighton Star

Liverpool is preparing serious advances to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Karos Baleva during the January transfer period, according to Indykaila News.

The 21-year-old Cameroonian, who turned his eye to the Premier League following his outstanding performance, had already been linked to Manchester United, but now Liverpool looks ready to test Brighton’s resolve mid-season.

The interest reported by Liverpool is nothing new. Early in the summer, outlets such as Rousingthekop reported that they were unlikely to push him hard between the windows while Liverpool praised Baleba.

But now, the dynamics may be changing. Baleba’s values, form and Brighton’s stance suggest that the January window may offer a more realistic opportunity for clubs like Liverpool to test the water.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom and manager Fabian Hartseller have solidified in recent months that Valeva has not sold and he is highly rated. United’s summer attempts reportedly met resistance, particularly over the rating of Brighton, which is more than £100 million.

In a similar situation (star’s past departures), Seagulls’ policy was to keep players up rather than often requesting record fees or selling prematurely.

It could all change in the near future as interest from Liverpool is likely to turn the players’ heads.

Valeva was even open to the idea of joining Man United at the summer transfer window, but he met resistance from his club and waited patiently rather than upset to leave.
