Joe Rothwell was one of Leeds United’s quietly influential players in his campaign to win the promotion last season.

He played a key role in securing his return to the Premier League, but he was unable to experience the rewards of his success firsthand.

Joe Rothwell was impressed with Leeds

Rothwell was brought to Leeds on a loan agreement last season and was not initially considered a central figure in the promotion. However, he proved his worth at Elland Road with a strong performance. His ability to control the midfield and provide accurate set pieces had a noticeable impact on important matches. Nevertheless, Rothwell left Leeds after his loan agreement expired.

He had accepted to sign permanently, but Leeds decided to move for other options, and Rothwell ended up moving to the Rangers in Scotland.

New Rangers manager Russell Martin wanted to bring Rothwell to the club following an impressive exhibit in Leeds. However, the Rangers are struggling at the beginning of the current season, with Martin and his new signature garnering criticism from fans.

Sutton in Rothwell

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton claims the midfielder appears to be influenced by Ibrox’s hostile vibe. Sutton describes the Rangers environment as toxic and makes it a challenging place to play, and Rothwell is one of the players who feel pressured.

“Joe Rothwell, who had a solid career in Leeds and Blackburn,” Sutton said at the BBC’s Monday night club, “It was visibly affected by high expectations and constant criticism. It’s a tough situation. The atmosphere at the club is very harsh.”

It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back and produce a powerful performance for the Ranger. There is no doubt that he has the quality to succeed in Scotland, and he has managed to grow into a key player for the club.
