Tottenham could be added to the midfield option in January, and longtime targets could become the player they’re trying to sign. Conor Gallagher has been on the club’s radar for some time, and the deal could eventually take place in 2026.
Gallagher was beginning a new season with Atletico Madrid and was struggling to take charge of his usual starting spot. And if that continues to be true, he can ask for an exit, but that is unlikely to happen before next summer.
Conor Gallagher will be staying at Atletico Madrid in January
According to a soccer insider, Pete O’Rourke is questioning the possibility of signing Tottenham’s Gallagher when the transfer window resumes in January.
“It’s tough. It’s not surprising that there were a few clubs around Gallagher in the summer that the clubs sniffed around. He was in and out of the Atletico Madrid side and didn’t play as many minutes as he liked in La Liga, but he started in the Champions League against Liverpool.
“It’s going to be a difficult deal to do that in January due to the fees involved, and obviously Atletico needs to bring him a replacement too. Thinking about Gallagher himself, would he want to move mid-season, especially in the World Cup years?
“Again, it could be another thing that he might have to come to the player thinking he might be staying at Atletico Madrid, where he is calm.
The rest of this season will be important for Gallagher in his efforts to be included with Thomas Touchel’s team for the next World Cup, and will risk changing clubs a few months before the tournament begins. In this respect it makes sense for him to stay in Atletico. This is bad news for Tottenham.
