Brazilian tennis player Beatrice Haddad Maia is finishing her season early to focus on her health.

Haddad Maia, ranked 40th, made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday.

“I’m finishing the 2025 season a little earlier than planned, so I can rest my body and mind for a long period of time,” she writes. “Please come back strong and make sure the best hasn’t come yet.”

Last week at the WTA tournament in Seoul, the 29-year-old player struggled to breathe during the match, her hands shaking while she rested between games. The physical therapist checked her blood pressure before she continued playing.

Seoul defending champion Haddad Maia won that first round match but lost to Ella Seidel in the 16th round. The Brazilians led 5-2 in the third set, earning match points, but lost the final five games in a row.

Former top 10 player Haddad Maia lost 26 of his 42 games in 2025.
