BEIJING – Wimbledon champion Iga Switek defeated Yuan Yue 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday to advance to the third round at the China Open, creating the history of the WTA tour.

The WTA said Saturday’s victory made Swiatek the first player to register more than 25 wins in the WTA-1000 event for three consecutive seasons.

Top seed Sweet, who won the Korean Open last week in Seoul, won the French Open four times, with the US winning once out of six Grand Slam singles titles.

In a previous match in Beijing on Saturday, fourth seeded Mira Andreva defeated another Chinese player Zhu Lin 6-2, 6-2, while American Emma Navarro defeated Elena Gabriella Loose 6-3, 7-6 (0).

Naomi osaka and Emma Raducanu were scheduled to play their second match on Saturday.

The tournament is being held at the same time as the ATP 500 men’s tournament, with Jannik Sinner among those scheduled to play the match later on Saturday.

Thinner, who lost the US Open Finals by Carlos Alcaraz three weeks ago, only dropped four games in the first round match against Croatian veteran Marin Silick. He was scheduled to play the Frenchman Terrence Atmana for the quarter-finals spot.
