US Emma Navarro disrupts top-seeded Igaweetek with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 victory in the fourth round of the China Open on Wednesday.
Seeded 16th place, Navarro has put on his volatile performance for the third time this season, not winning more than three games in two matches against świątek, who lost a love set.
Sonay Kartal also produced the biggest win of her career, beating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals. It is the first time Kartal has beaten a top 10 player and the first time he has reached the final eight in the WTA 1000 event.
“I think the way I carry myself in court is one of my biggest assets. You can look down at me on the other end and I really don’t know if I’m winning or losing,” Kartal said. “I just tried to put that second set behind me. She played some great tennis so I leveled it up with the third set and kept the scoreboard pressure as high as possible.”
Fifth seed Jessica Pegra plays Ukrainian Marta Kostuk, while second seeded Kokogoff has already made it to the quarterfinals and is scheduled to face Everly on Thursday.
Jannik Sinner, who played the simultaneous men’s tournament in Beijing, won the Chinese open title, beating American teenage learners Tien 6-2, 6-2.
