Shanghai – Jenson Brooksby defeated James Trotter 7-6 (2), 6-1 in the first round of the Shanghai Masters, following his semi-finals at the Japan Open earlier this week.
Brooksby is back to play this year at the Australian Open after two years away from the game due to injuries and halt after missing a drug test. His loss at the Japan Open in Tokyo was with Americans and second seed Taylor Fritz.
All Shanghai’s top seed players will receive their first Bies, and players such as Janik Sinner, who won the China Open Final in Beijing on Wednesday, with Novak Djokovic not playing opening matches until at least Friday.
Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Fritz in the Japan Open Finals, announced that he would not play in Shanghai after his victory in Tokyo.
