Alcalaz plays amateurs for $700,000 in “One Point Slam” in AO

Carlos Alcaraz headlined the new “One Point Slam” at Australia’s opening this year, and announced 10 amateurs will be heading straight with 22 experts on Tuesday.

A total of $1 million ($700,000) can be earned by the entire winner. This is slightly less than the men and women’s main draw semi-finalists.

The event will be held at the opening weekend of the season-opening slam, following a US Open attempt to bring new eyeballs into tennis by expanding the competition for mixed doubles.

“One Point Slam” does exactly as it says. Each match consists of a single point. The prematch game of “lock, paper, scissors” determines who will serve.

“Today, we can reveal that world’s No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will be headlined for the pro player lineup in the million dollar 1 point slam.

“Whether you’re an amateur or a pro, the ultimate winner will win the award. Entries will soon be open for clubs across the country, and during opening week, finalists will compete for the opportunity to compete against the pro at Rodlaver Arena.

“There are more big names that will be announced soon, so now there’s a million reasons to pick up a racket and prepare for January.”
