Arsenal midfielder Martin Zvimendi has described the “horrifying” initiation ritual he had to go through when he first joined the Gunners.

The Spain international is quite shy and was reluctant to have to sing to his new team-mates when he arrived in north London.

It’s normal for players to do this when joining a new club, but Zvimendi said in an interview with the Guardian that it’s the worst thing to happen in football.

Zubimendi sang Manuel Turizo’s “La Bachata” and was able to settle in permanently at Arsenal after having to overcome that awkward hurdle.

“It’s the worst thing in football,” he said. “I had to sing. I sang ‘La Bachata’ by Manuel Turizo. Terrible, awful.”

Zvimendi may not be much of a singer, but he has been a decent performer on the pitch for Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has settled into the Emirates Stadium admirably and has quickly become a very important player for his new club.

Adjusting to a new club and a new country will be tough, but aside from an awkward transition, Zvimendi seems to be doing everything well.

Elsewhere in the interview, Zvimendi also gave insight into how he ended up choosing Arsenal, despite Liverpool also trying to sign him the previous year, as reported by The Times.

Arsenal fans will be delighted that the club won that particular race, as the former Real Sociedad man now clearly appears to have been a great signing for Liverpool as well.

Zvimendi now looks set to be one of a number of new AFC signings poised to take Mikel Arteta’s side one step closer to winning a major silver medal.
