15-time major champion Tiger Woods underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery on Friday, it was announced on Saturday’s X show.

“I consulted my doctor and surgeon for evaluation because I was experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back,” Woods’ statement said. “The scan revealed that I had a collapsed disc at L4/L5, a disc fragment, and damage to my spinal canal. I decided to have my disc replaced yesterday and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

A timeline for Woods’ return to competitive golf has not been disclosed.

Tiger Woods underwent surgery for a torn Achilles tendon in March and has not played on the PGA Tour this season. Last September, Woods underwent lower back surgery, which he described as lumbar microdecompression surgery for nerve impingement.

Woods, 49, has had six back surgeries, starting with a microscopic discectomy for a compressed nerve in 2014. She underwent a second microscopic discectomy in September 2015, followed by follow-up surgery in October 2016 to alleviate discomfort. She underwent another microscopic discectomy in 2017 and another surgery in 2021. Woods also underwent numerous surgeries on his legs before and after the car accident.

Woods started just five games in 2024. His only appearance was at the 2024 Masters. He missed the remaining three majors, but played in the PNC Championship and TGL with his son Charlie until injuring his Achilles tendon in March.
