Tiger Woods underwent another lower back surgery, announcing on social media Saturday night that the latest surgery was performed in New York on Friday after doctors discovered a collapsed disc in his lumbar vertebrae. Woods had already been away from golf this spring after tearing his Achilles tendon.

“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted a doctor and surgeon for testing,” Woods explained. “Scans revealed that I had a collapsed disc at L4/5, a disc fragment, and damage to my spinal canal. I decided to have my disc replaced yesterday and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

Woods has recovered from multiple back surgeries throughout his career, and those surgeries certainly overlap over time. Tiger’s statement said the surgery was successful, but did not provide a timeline for a possible return to golf.

Woods, who was already rehabbing from surgery for a torn Achilles tendon that sidelined him for the entire 2025 season, last played golf in TGL, a simulator league he runs with Rory McIlroy. fans expected him to do so Return to second season When it starts at the end of December. However, Woods’ participation in this TGL campaign appears unlikely due to back surgery in October, and his status for the 2026 major championship season is certainly in question.

The list of surgeries and procedures Woods has undergone throughout his career now number well over a dozen. This latest surgery is Woods’ seventh back surgery since 2014 and his second in 13 months.

Tiger has undergone numerous knee, ankle, foot and Achilles tendon surgeries throughout his career. Each time Woods announced a new surgery, he expressed his determination to fight his way back to the top of golf with perhaps the biggest win of his career, winning the 2019 Masters.
