Everton have made a good start to the season and have done so despite the poor form of their first-team striker. Tierno Barry, signed for 30 million euros in the summer, is yet to score in the Premier League, while Beto has found the back of the net just once (against Wolves).
If this situation continues, there is a good chance that Everton will look to sign a new striker in January, and they have already listed one target, Man United’s Joshua Zirkzee.
Everton look to Joshua Zirkzee to solve striker woes
According to Mick Brown (via Football Insider), Everton are one of several clubs interested in Zirksee, who is considering leaving Man United when the transfer window reopens.
“If Zirkzee is given the green light to leave Man United in January, many clubs will support him. It is clear that he will struggle for minutes this season. In front of him is Benjamin Sesco as the preferred number nine, and in his place is Cunha and Mbeumo.”
“Obviously, the player himself is unhappy with his lack of appearances this season and if his minutes do not improve he could push for a move in January. “He had enjoyed success in Serie A before joining Man United and there was always interest from Italian clubs such as Juventus and Como.
“Also Everton, it’s probably a club where players like Beto and Barry haven’t really set their sights on yet and haven’t secured a place in the starting XI. So they’ll probably be looking at players like Zirksee when the January window opens up. If Man Utd reluctantly allow him to leave in January, I’m sure there will be plenty of clubs interested in him.”
Everton could be an ideal destination for Zirksee, as he would fit well with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish, who have both excelled so far this season.
