  • Moises Caicedo strengthens Chelsea’s midfield
  • Blues want to secure star midfielder’s future

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to begin negotiations to improve Moises Caicedo’s contract in a bid to cool down outside interest, with Real Madrid also said to be keeping an eye on the Ecuadorian.

According to TEAMtalk, the Blues see the 23-year-old as the centerpiece of a long-term project and are keen to secure his future on upgraded terms, despite his current contract already running until 2031.

On the back of a string of solid performances this season, Chelsea bosses are keen to reward Caicedo and send a firm message to potential suitors ahead of the next two transfer windows.

Caicedo’s trajectory at Stamford Bridge continues to move steadily upward. After a period of settling in last season, the midfielder is looking more and more like the player Chelsea invested heavily in when he signed a British record contract in 2023.

Moises Caicedo strengthens Chelsea’s midfield

Previously, defensive switches had caused the team to wobble, but Caicedo’s foresight and speed of recovery significantly narrowed the space between defense and midfield.

Madrid’s recent reinforcements have focused on building an elite and versatile midfield group, and Caicedo fits that profile perfectly.

From Chelsea’s point of view, re-signing doesn’t have to be a purely financial issue. It can formalize sporting guarantees, role clarity, leadership responsibilities, performance incentives and set up wage pathways that reflect Caicedo’s status without breaking internal structures.

The chemistry between Caicedo and the rest of the midfield group has improved significantly, and uncertainty over his future has been lifted.

The Ecuadorian has developed into a key part of Maresca’s team and the Blues are keen to remove any ambiguity over his future, with Madrid and others keeping an eye on him.

The contract has already been extended until 2031, and improved terms would reaffirm Caicedo’s status, protect Chelsea’s assets and protect the continuity of the midfield that has brought miracles to the club, as evidenced by its success in the Conference League and the Club World Cup.
