Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee could be set to leave the club during the January transfer window.

Italian clubs Roma and Como are interested in signing him. The Times reports that he could consider leaving Manchester United to get his national team career back on track.

Joshua Zirkzee needs to move

The 24-year-old was recently left out of the Netherlands squad and risks missing out on the upcoming World Cup. Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman recently revealed that Zirksee was left out because he was not playing regularly.

Koeman said: “They (Brobby and Zirkzee) haven’t played at all and I don’t think they’re injured. Or they’ve moved on. If they end up playing more, they’ll still have options. But we’re looking beyond that.”

The 24-year-old wants to get his career back on track and needs regular opportunities. A return to Italy might be ideal for him. He played the best football in Bologna and is also very knowledgeable about the law. He could make an immediate impact at Roma or Como.

Manchester United are unlikely to stand in his way. Since he is not an important player for them, they may consider selling him and recouping some money from his departure. They have already invested in Benjamin Sesco and the £105,000-a-week Dutch international is unlikely to get regular minutes this season. It would be ideal for him to move on.

Zirkzee has made 53 appearances for Manchester United, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. It is no exaggeration to say that this move did not go well.

It remains to be seen whether Roma are prepared to pay a reasonable amount for the player. According to the paper, a loan deal could be finalized in January. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the coming weeks.
