Chelsea are interested in signing Lazio defender Mario Gila in the coming months.

The 25-year-old has been doing very well for the Italian club and Chelsea are looking to bring him to the Premier League. The former Real Madrid player is certainly one of the best defenders in the Italian league right now, and Gila could be a great addition for Chelsea.

The Blues are struggling with multiple injuries at the back and are in need of a quality central defender. It will be interesting to see if they can sign the player in January. According to Football Insider, Brighton are also interested in signing the player.

Tottenham also recently revealed they are keeping an eye on Gila.

As well as being a quality defender, Gila is also good on the ball and will add creativity and control from deep. The Spanish defender has recorded a passing accuracy of 91% over the past 12 months, with 4.8 progressive passes and 1.4 progressive carries per 90 minutes.

The player is at the peak of his career and could improve further by playing in a better team with top players. A move to Chelsea could unlock his true potential. He will want to compete at the highest level and joining one of the biggest clubs in the world will be very exciting for him.

Chelsea certainly have the financial power to beat Brighton to his signature. It remains to be seen whether they can close a deal. It will be difficult to convince Italian clubs to sell players midway through the season. They don’t want to lose their best defender in January. Chelsea may have to pay a premium to get the deal done.

The Spaniard had to leave Real Madrid without making a mark, but now he wants to prove himself at a top club. A move to Chelsea could be the ideal next step in his career.
