  • Aston Villa hero close to signing new contract

A highly influential player at Aston Villa is believed to be close to signing a new contract with the club in a significant new development.

Aston Villa fans banned from European matches

The Villans return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a tough game against Tottenham, but important updates regarding the Europa League have been revealed.

On Thursday, Villa’s official website issued a statement confirming that supporters will not be able to attend next month’s home match against Maccabi Tel Aviv for safety reasons.

“Aston Villa can confirm that following instructions from the Safety Advisory Group, the club has been informed that away fans will not be able to attend the UEFA Europa League match against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday 6 November. The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) is responsible for issuing safety certificates for all matches at Villa Park, based on a variety of physical and safety factors.”

“Following a meeting this afternoon, SAG has formally written to clubs and UEFA informing them that away fans will not be allowed into Villa Park for this match. West Midlands Police have advised SAG that there are security concerns outside Stadium Bowl and that they have the capacity to deal with any protests that may occur that night.”

“The club is in continuous dialogue with Maccabi Tel Aviv and local authorities throughout this ongoing process, and is keeping the safety of supporters attending matches and the safety of local residents at the forefront of all decisions.”

Apart from safety and on-field issues, a big update has been announced regarding the future of one of Villa’s most popular players.

Aston Villa hero close to signing new contract

According to telegraph paperJohn Percy and John McGinn are now “close” to signing a new contract with Aston Villa, with the paper also describing him as “one of the best bargains of the decade”. ×.

The 30-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of this season, but his stay at Villa Park looks set to extend beyond 2026.

Given McGinn’s leadership, experience and qualifications at this point in his career, this should be considered great news.

Sure, he may not be at the absolute peak of his powers right now, which isn’t a huge shock considering his age, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have great things to offer.

McGinn has been a fantastic signing since joining from Hibernian for just £2.5m in 2018 and, as Percy alluded to, he is an incredible bargain with plenty more to come.

If the midfielder can help Villa win a trophy or two before his time at the club ends, he could well go on to become a true legend in the future.
