Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Dynamo Kiev defender Taras Mikavko.

The 20-year-old has performed well in the Ukrainian Premier League and Liverpool are keeping an eye on his progress. Manchester United are also said to be interested in the player. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Liverpool’s key man is Taras Mikavko

Liverpool are looking to add depth to their defense, with Ibrahima Konate in particular expected to move on in the coming months. He is scheduled to become a free agent after the season. Meanwhile, club captain Virgil van Dijk is in the twilight stages of his career.

Liverpool need to bring in multiple central defenders and the 20-year-old could be a solid long-term signing for them. Manager Graham Bailey revealed on TBR Football that Liverpool are working on a number of options to improve their defensive unit, with Mikafko being one of them.

Bailey said: “I think we need to look at a player like Ordonez in January, an Ecuadorian player from Bruges, a young big talent or maybe Taras Mikavko from Kiev. Liverpool are working on a number of options.”

The defender is reportedly ready to make the switch to English football and the opportunity to join Liverpool would be a very exciting one for him. They are Premier League champions and have an ambitious project. They have world-class players at their disposal and joining a Premier League club will allow him to develop even further.

Playing regular football in England will bring out the best in him and accelerate his development. Liverpool have been successful in developing young players over the years and could play a key role in the development of the 20-year-old.

If they can sign him for a reasonable amount, the investment could turn out to be a bargain in the long run. The young defender could develop into an important first-team player for the club.
