  • Celtic suffer a crushing defeat against Dundee
  • Chris Sutton can’t believe Yang Hyun-joong started against Dundee

Celtic faced Dundee in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, but Brendan Rodgers’ decision at Dens Park sparked Chris Sutton’s fierce disapproval.

Celtic suffer a crushing defeat against Dundee

The international break has passed and Celtic look to rebuild after Saturday night’s win over Kilmarnock to close the gap on Heart of Midlothian.

To be honest, the Boies have been well below par this season and seem to be struggling to accumulate convincing wins. This was reflected in Tayside, who put in a disastrous display that left far more questions than answers.

Dundee fired themselves up and took a well-deserved two-goal lead, but Celtic’s problems continued to emerge at an alarming rate and there was no sign of recovery, but the hosts were able to claim a win that proved their performance.

Daenen Maeda’s injury left the Boies short on attacking options and they were ineffective from the start, but this is something the club’s hierarchy have a lot to answer for in the bigger picture.

Still five points behind, they look ahead to their toughest week of the season so far, starting with a home game against Sturm Graz in the Europa League before a trip to Tynecastle to face Heart of Midlothian.

A win in Edinburgh would reduce the gap to two points again. A loss could leave Celtic with an eight-point lead and a crucial game before the November international break.

There is no doubt that the pressure on Rodgers has never been higher, even if he is severely lacking in terms of rank, but some believe Rodgers has a lot to answer for after another terrible day for the Scottish Premiership holders.

Chris Sutton can’t believe Yang Hyun-joong started against Dundee

Speaking on Sky Sports, which was broadcast via

he said: “I don’t understand the decision to start Jan in front of James Forrest. James Forrest, he’s starting a little bit better, but you know what’s going to happen. I don’t think Jan himself knows what to do with the ball either. He passes the ball to the players who are done with it. Just get him off!”

Sutton is an outspoken Celtic critic, but in this case he’s absolutely right. Jan, like many others, performed well below the standard needed to secure the three points at Dens Park.

According to Photomob, the £6,000-a-week player achieved a match rating of 6.1/10, took 25 touches in total and did nothing to trouble Dundee’s backline until he was hooked at half-time.

I have to say that the Korean winger was not the only culprit. Celtic are in a bad situation and need to improve quickly to avoid increased public scrutiny of their performance.
