Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson looked set to leave the club in the summer transfer window, but he ended up staying.
Atletico Madrid are keen to sign him and are monitoring his situation closely.
Liverpool ready to sell Andrew Robertson
Fichajes reports that Liverpool’s board decided to sell the player during the January transfer window. They don’t want to lose him on a free transfer at the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether the Spanish team will make a move to sign him.
Robertson could be a very useful player for them. He has the quality and experience to play for the biggest clubs in the world. He has won some big trophies with Liverpool and could take on a new challenge at this stage of his career. After the arrival of Milos Kerkes, he was no longer a regular starter at Liverpool.
However, he is still a high-quality player with a wealth of experience. His departure in January could be a mistake for Liverpool. They are already struggling right now and could use his leadership and qualities.
Selling Robertson would be a mistake.
Ideally, they should consider convincing him to sign a short-term contract extension so he can be sold for a nominal price in the summer. It makes no sense to fire him in January.
Kerkes is still adapting to his new club and has yet to perform at the level expected of him. Keeping him as the club’s only left-back until the end of the season could be a disastrous decision.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
