Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hulmand in the January transfer window.
They will also face competition from crosstown rivals Manchester City, according to a report from Portuguese publication Record via SportWitness.
The 26-year-old Danish international has performed very well for the Portuguese club and would be a great addition for both clubs.
Manchester United could use Morten Yurmand
Manchester United need more quality and depth in the center of the park. They could use more physicality and defensive cover on the wings. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to bring the Denmark international to the club.
Sporting CP may not want to lose a key player like him midway through the season. He has an €80m release clause in his contract and if Manchester United come calling, they could demand a premium.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim worked with the midfielder during his time at the Portuguese club and Manchester United should have no problem convincing him to join. However, agreeing a reasonable contract with a club could be complicated.
The midfielder, on the other hand, knows the way Amorim likes to play and a move to Manchester United should allow him to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Amorim previously praised him as a “great player”.
Mr. Yulmand may make a move.
At this stage of his career, the opportunity to join a Premier League club would be very exciting for him. He has reached the peak of his powers and will aim to compete at the highest level. Playing regular football in England could help him develop further. If this move goes ahead, he will be fighting for big trophies at Manchester United.
Manchester City, on the other hand, could also use physicality and defensive cover in midfield. They need a quality replacement for Rodri and the 26-year-old could be the ideal signing.
