Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Marseille striker Mason Greenwood, potentially reuniting him with fellow Englishman Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Camp Nou.

According to The Sun, scouts at the Catalan club have been impressed with Greenwood’s performances in Ligue 1.

Greenwood, 24, has been rebuilding his career in France since leaving Manchester United and continues to attract interest from Europe’s elite.

Greenwood’s return to fame has been closely followed since he moved to Getafe in 2023 and scored 22 goals and five assists in all competitions in his debut season in Spain.

Mason Greenwood is a player in demand.

This performance earned him a permanent move to Marseille, and he has scored four goals so far this season, contributing greatly to the French club’s attacking threat and continues to have an impact.

However, despite his exploits on the pitch, there are reports that Greenwood is suffering from homesickness for England, which could make a move elsewhere more appealing.

Barcelona’s interest is particularly interesting given the club’s ongoing rebuild of the squad and desire to add depth in attacking areas. Manager Hansi Flick is said to be keen on a versatile forward who can play up front, and Greenwood fits that profile.

The potential presence of Rashford, currently on loan at Barça, could further tempt Greenwood, offering both familiarity and a smoother transition to life in Catalonia.

The move could also benefit Man United financially, who remain tied to the player’s future through a 50% sell-on clause.

This means United will receive half of the transfer fee that Barcelona would pay Marseille, meaning they could make a significant profit if the deal goes through.

Greenwood was suspended by Man United in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. The Crown Prosecution Service has since dropped all charges, but the incident continues to cast a shadow on his public image.
