  • Gunners enter race to sign new midfielder
  • ‘Powerful’ Thuram impresses in Serie A

Arsenal have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign a “powerful” midfielder from the Champions League club, it has been revealed.

Gunners enter race to sign new midfielder

Mikel Arteta significantly strengthened his squad in the summer transfer window, with the arrival of Martin Zvimendi and Christian Norgaard to strengthen his midfield options, and the Spain international has made a flying start in the Premier League.

There are rumors that Zvimendi has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the top flight, having formed a partnership with Declan Rice, with the pair creating three big chances in the 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Mikel Merino, Ebelesi Eze and Martin Odegaard are also on the list, with Arteta looking to have plenty of talent in both his midfield defense and attack, but the north Londoners have joined the race to sign the Serie A star.

This comes from a report from Spain, which claims that Arsenal are currently monitoring Juventus midfielder Kefren Thuram, who has an asking price of 70 million euros (approximately £61 million), amid interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are also in contention to sign Thuram, who has established himself as an important player since joining the Serie A club in the summer of 2024, so it may be difficult to conclude a deal.

Indeed, the midfielder has emerged as an important player and while it may be difficult to tempt Juventus to sell him given that he is under contract until 2029, there is certainly interest on behalf of the Gunners.

Scout Ben Mattinson also suggested the 24-year-old is a well-rounded midfielder, praising the maestro’s “powerful carry”, “physicality” and “quick feet”.

The Italian-born maestro, who has appeared in the Champions League 13 times, clearly has the talent to succeed at the Emirates Stadium, but there is no immediate need for Arteta to bring in a new midfielder.

Zvimendi has shown his class since joining, Norgaard is tipped as a back-up option, and Rice has continued to impress with four goals in the Premier League so far this season, giving the Arsenal manager a wealth of top-quality options already.
