Newcastle are trying to steal a contract from Manchester United

Newcastle are considering a potential deal for 2026, and the January transfer window presents a good opportunity. Alexander Isak’s record-setting move to Liverpool in the UK means there should be space for reinforcements at PSR and one area that could be addressed is midfield.

Newcastle have Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães as the clear starters in the center of the park, but they are aiming for that third spot. Joelinton has played frequently, but Eddie Howe could explore other options in January, despite bringing in Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa during the summer.

Newcastle set sights on signing Hayden Hackney

According to TBR Football, Newcastle are interested in signing Hayden Hackney from north east rivals Middlesbrough. However, manager Graham Bailey has revealed that the 23-year-old, who is also wanted by Man United and Tottenham, is unlikely to be allowed to leave when the transfer window reopens in January.

“Hayden Hackney is emerging as the linchpin of their push as Boro mount a serious challenge for promotion. But we hear Boro have little intention of allowing Hackney to leave in January. Last season they let Emmanuel Late-Las go, but Michael Carrick feels that cost them their chances of promotion and they have no intention of doing the same again.”

“Having said that, if Hackney continues his good form Boro will become more determined. There could be some very big offers coming in in January, but Boro know that the only way to keep Hackney is if they get promoted and the only way to do that is to keep him.”

It’s clear that Newcastle want another defensive-minded midfielder, given that there is also the possibility of them re-signing Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest. Hackney would be a more financially viable option, but for now it remains to be seen whether they will increase their interest in the coming months.
