West Ham admit they made a mistake signing players in the summer

West Ham had a disastrous start to the season, which continued at the weekend with defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road. The Hammers, who have already sacked former manager Graham Potter and replaced him with Nuno Espirito Santo, have lost eight of their 10 competitive matches and currently sit 19th in the Premier League.

West Ham are struggling to prevent goals, but they are also struggling in attack as well. They have scored seven goals in nine Premier League appearances, but only one of those goals has been scored by a striker (Callum Wilson vs. Nottingham Forest).

Striker is a position where West Ham have had a lot of problems in recent years, but given the season so far, they were unable to rectify that over the summer.

Wilson was the only number nine to arrive at the London Stadium during the summer transfer window, having joined as a free agent after leaving Newcastle. However, The Times (via Geordie Boot Boys) report that West Ham officials have admitted they needed to make at least one more signing in this area.

Along with Wilson, West Ham only have Niklas Flukrug as a natural striker option in the squad, so Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta have been utilized there this season. Both players have excelled in other positions, highlighting Nuno’s early struggles in his role.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham will go to the market to sign a new striker in January, but considering their struggles so far this season, doing so could ensure they avoid relegation from the Premier League.
