  • Man City aim to improve attack amid overreliance on Haaland
  • ‘Generational talent’ Monga could be a future star

Manchester City currently lead the race to sign ‘generational talent’ ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Man City aim to improve attack amid overreliance on Haaland

Some have suggested that Man City have been too reliant on Erling Haaland so far this season. The Norwegian has already scored 11 times and is the Premier League’s top scorer.

No other City player has scored more than one goal in the top flight, but this will be a cause for concern for Pep Guardiola as some of his other attacking options are still learning on the job and have yet to show their true potential.

One such player is Sabinho, with Guardiola saying: “Savio is a top player who can play on either flank and I feel comfortable playing on either flank. I said last season, it was his first season (in) the Premier League and it wasn’t easy for him to play a lot of minutes.”

“This is the moment for him to take the step to become a decisive player and add goals and assists. Especially in goals, he will be a top-class player. Top-class. He needs to take that step.”

Jeremy Doku has also been inconsistent, and although he provided two assists in the 3-0 win over Man United, he has failed to make much of an impact in other games and the Blues are currently considering signing a new winger.

This is according to a report from The Boot Room, which claims that Manchester City have moved into pole position in the race to sign Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga, ahead of Man United, Newcastle and Chelsea.

City are now preparing a fresh approach to signing long-term target Monga, with the 16-year-old now in the shop window after emerging as a regular in Leicester’s first team this season.

The Foxes are powerless to stop the teenager from leaving as he cannot sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in June.

‘Generational talent’ Monga could be a future star

Journalist Graham Bailey hailed him as a “generational talent” in the aforementioned report, and the fact that he is already in contention for the first team at Leicester is testament to just how talented the youngster is.

The starlet has already made 11 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring his first professional goal in a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End in August.

Scout Jacek Kulig clearly believes the five-time England U19 international has a big future, describing him as follows: ‘One of England’s most exciting Under-17 talents’

Given his age, it may still be a while before Monga challenges for a starting role at a club like Man City, but he is clearly a top prospect and it’s exciting news that the team have moved into pole position in the race for his signature.
