Liverpool manager Arne Slott made a cryptic complaint about his team’s strength after last night’s loss to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
The Reds are in absolutely terrible form at the moment, losing six of their last seven games in all competitions and conceding a ton of goals.
Slott did wonders in his first season at Liverpool, leading them to the Premier League title last season, but things quickly deteriorated at the start of this season.
Remarkably, the Dutch tactician appears to be saying that his team is not as good as the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, despite spending nearly £450m in the just-ended transfer window (£446m to be exact, according to Sky Sports).
Apparently Arne Slot’s expensive squad isn’t big enough…
Speaking after the 3-0 home defeat to Palace, Slott said: “Before I went out, I looked at (Manchester) City’s lineup (against Swansea) and I don’t think they had any starting pitchers from the weekend, but when I looked at their lineup, it felt like they played with 11 starting players,” he said.
“So that might give you a little bit of insight. Everyone always said how big a team we are…When we played against Chelsea I said they were eight players short but they could still bring in Estevao.
“We only have four players missing at the moment, but we already had to start with four players under 19 and after I made two substitutions we are down to six.”
Liverpool are in full crisis mode
No matter what Slott thought about the state of the team, Liverpool’s current form is far from good enough.
Six losses in seven games is shocking for a club of this size, especially after their successful run to the title last season.
For some reason, things are only getting worse as Liverpool spend a lot of money, new players fail to stick and players who performed so well last season are regressing.
It seems a little crazy to say this, but Mr. Slott definitely has to turn things around soon, or there will soon be serious uncertainty in his job.
