Leeds United star confirmed to leave in January

Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier is reportedly subject to growing interest ahead of a potential departure in the January transfer window.

The French shot-stopper is no longer first choice for Daniel Farke’s side, which means he is likely to move on in the near future after almost leaving during the summer.

According to the latest reports, Club Brugge are competing with Anderlecht for Meslier, with the 25-year-old also nearing the end of his contract.

This could lead to Meslier leaving on a free transfer next summer, but Leeds will certainly pursue the opportunity to sign him in January this year.

Initial contacts have already been made regarding Meslier’s departure, with Club Brugge and Anderlecht appearing the most likely to be his next destinations.

Leeds have yet to use Meslier in the Premier League this season, so it would certainly move him out of the way if clubs stepped in and offered him more regular first-team opportunities.

Meslier may not have become the player he was expected to be when he was young, but he is certainly good enough to represent a major European team.

Leeds fans won’t be too disappointed to see him leave now, but we imagine a few will be keen to see how his career progresses if he does move to Belgium.
