  • Federico Chiesa says he wants to stay at Liverpool
  • Chiesa established himself as a fan favorite at Liverpool

Liverpool star Federico Chiesa’s future at the club remains a talking point heading into the January transfer window.

Despite being one of the most influential attackers in the team at the moment, the Italian has had very limited playing time.

While other players struggled, Chiesa seemed like a breath of fresh air every time he played.

He has played just 335 minutes in all competitions, making no starts in the Premier League, but has scored two goals and provided three assists.

He came off the bench to score the winning goal in the opening game against Bournemouth, and was on the scoresheet again against Crystal Palace, coming off the bench late in the game to score the crucial equalizer (although Palace won the match with the winning goal in stoppage time).

Despite his impressive results, Arne Slott refuses to give him more playing time, even though he earned it on merit.

This has led to speculation about his future, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming the player will have a number of suitors in January.

Fabrizio Romano talks about Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool

According to reports, the Reds have no intention of releasing Chiesa in January. However, Romano insisted that if his limited game time at Liverpool continues, a number of clubs could soon become wary.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano revealed that several Italian clubs are keeping an eye on Chiesa’s situation ahead of the winter transfer window.

He said: “He needs to play in a different way in January. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Italian club comes back and tries again to sign Federico Chiesa from Liverpool.”

“I think this might happen. They might try.”

However, Romano also revealed that both player and club now wish to continue working together.

He added: “But at the moment, Liverpool and Chiesa’s desire is to remain together.

“So I don’t think the decision will be easy going into the January period, but the interest still remains and we need to follow the game time over the next two months.

Federico Chiesa says he wants to stay at Liverpool

Chiesa insists he is happy playing for Liverpool despite limited minutes. Ahead of the game against Crystal Palace earlier this week, he reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool and said he wanted to win trophies with the club.

He said (quoted from Liverpool.com):

“At the moment I’m happy with what I’m doing.

“I’m not happy with the team’s situation because we haven’t won, but personally I think I’ve given a lot to the team and the fans and I want to continue to do that to win in the future.

“That’s the main reason I’m doing this. Of course I want to stay here and I want to win again with Liverpool.

“I want to play well. That’s my main goal. And the coach will decide whether I start or not. But if I continue to play well, of course I’ll get more minutes, because the coach sees it. He showed me that because I’m playing better.”

“Last year I wasn’t fit enough. I wasn’t mentally ready and couldn’t play. I wasn’t up to speed with the other players, so I was totally fine.”

“This year, right from the start, I felt better physically and mentally. I’ve been playing more, but I still need to play more to get to that level. When we won the (2021) Euros, I was playing a lot.”

“I’m a different player now, but I like the direction I’m going and I like the fact that I’m progressing in many aspects of my game, other than the fact that I’ve slowed down a little bit.”

Chiesa established himself as a fan favorite at Liverpool

Federico Chiesa’s rapid rise to fan-favorite status at Liverpool is testament to his infectious energy, passion and dedication which quickly resonated with Anfield fans.

Despite limited playing time due to injury and intense competition, the Italian player’s infectious charisma and tangible dedication quickly captivated the Kop.

Fans want more than goals and assists. They connect with players who visibly embody the club’s spirit, a blend of fierce intensity and a joyful appreciation for the Anfield atmosphere.

Chiesa’s direct and aggressive running, his avoidance of challenge and his trademark energetic celebration all demonstrate the kind of ‘fight’ that instantly endears the player to Liverpool fans.
