Arsenal have been approached about a January move for Rodrygo from Real Madrid following new updates regarding his future at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Despite significantly strengthening his squad in the summer, Mikel Arteta currently feels short on options in attacking areas, with Victor Goqueres recently joining fellow strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus on the treatment table.

Arteta admitted he was concerned about the extent of Gokeres’ injury, which he sustained in the 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, saying: “I’m concerned because he doesn’t have too many muscle problems and he had to leave the field because he felt something. That’s a concern for a player who is so explosive.”

Gabriel Martinelli is also struggling with injury, missing the win against the Clarets, while Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke are also not expected to return until later this month.

It is almost unbelievable how many of the Gunners’ forwards are currently sidelined, but the crisis has not yet had a negative impact on results, with Arteta’s side retaining a respectable position in the Premier League table with a six-point lead.

However, given the scale of their injury problems, the north Londoners may be looking to radically improve their squad in January, and are now offered the chance to sign a new forward.

Arsenal approach Rodrygo over January move

According to a report from The Boot Room, Arsenal have been approached about a January move for Rodrygo and have been told by an intermediary that the forward could be available after struggling to get consistent game time at Real Madrid.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been in contact with the Brazilian about potentially signing him, and he has begun to accept that he may need to leave the Spanish club for the sake of his career.

Journalist Graham Bailey added: “We have heard that Rodrigo is considering his options again, with a move to the Premier League being one possibility, which could become a reality in January. He is certainly a player to keep an eye on as we head into the new year.”

Hailed as a “world-class finisher” by journalist Kyle Bonn, the Madrid attacker can play on either wing or in midfield and has extensive top-level experience, having scored 25 goals and provided 16 assists in 66 Champions League appearances.

It’s no wonder, then, that the 24-year-old, who scored 14 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid last season, is said to have a positive opinion.

However, with Madueke and Odegaard both expected to return later this month, there are questions as to whether the 35-game Brazil international will be the deal needed.

Bringing in Rodrygo could make sense if Arteta is still short on options in January, but in theory Arsenal are very well-stocked in attacking areas and the current situation should pass.
