West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
Manchester United have recently been linked with a move for the player, but Dean Jones believes any talk of a move to Manchester United is just a rumour.
Jones believes there have been legitimate links between Tottenham and Aston Villa in the past, making such a move more likely.
Man United’s Lucas Paqueta transfer unlikely
The player told TEAMtalk: “The rumors about United and Paqueta make no sense at all and I question why they would immediately spend over £60m on him.”
“I believe the player himself is starting to feel itchy and is at a point where he wants a bigger contract with a new club, but he doesn’t fit what I understand United are looking for and so far I have not heard that this is the deal they are aiming for in January.”
“Apart from the fact that he’s already in the Premier League, he’s not the midfield player they want at the moment.
“The links between Spurs and Villa were legitimate and the price was right, so perhaps such a deal could become viable again, but West Ham are not going to let him leave easily, even with so little money to spend in the transfer market.”
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop. West Ham could demand more than £60m for the player.
Manchester United could use Paqueta
It’s no secret that Manchester United are in need of quality midfielders and the Brazilian has the quality to improve Manchester United. However, an agreement seems unlikely for now.
Manchester United will need to improve in the middle of the park if they are to fight for big trophies. Paqueta will further increase your workload, creativity, and motivation. He is well accustomed to English football and could make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
Paqueta wants to compete at the highest level and will want a top club to join him. A withdrawal in January seems unlikely. West Ham are in a precarious position after a poor start to the season. They are fighting for survival and selling one of their best players could be a huge setback.
