Liverpool are preparing a club-record offer to sign Vicinha in January, while Paris Saint-Germain are set to let one of their star players leave the club.
FSG made a number of big-money signings in the summer transfer window, but it’s fair to say that many of them haven’t really hit the ground running, with Alexander Isak yet to reach the heights he did at Newcastle United.
Indeed, it has been a slow start for the Swedish striker, who has scored just one goal in eight games in all competitions, while also missing the last four due to injury, Arne Slott provided an update ahead of the game against Real Madrid.
Slott said: “He definitely won’t start on Sunday, but maybe he can join the team. But he hasn’t practiced with the team yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Florian Wirths also glossed over the fact that the German attacking midfielder is yet to register a goal or assist in the Premier League, raising questions about Slot’s summer recruitment policy.
Liverpool preparing club-record offer for Vicinha
However, the Liverpool manager remains keen to add a proven top-flight player to his ranks, with reports from Spain revealing that a club-record €150m (about £132m) offer for PSG star Vicinha is being prepared for the January transfer window.
The Reds recognize the need to strengthen their options in the engine room and are working hard to ensure they are serious contenders for the midfielder, but getting a deal over the line could be difficult.
The Portuguese maestro is under contract with the French club until 2029, so he is in a good position in negotiations, and although the club are still determined to keep him, a big offer could be tempting.
Given that a monumental bid is in the works, FSG clearly means business and the Reds could land a top midfielder, given that the 25-year-old has been one of PSG’s main players for quite some time and has been highly rated by Luis Enrique.
Paul Scholes also named the 33-time Portuguese international in his top five midfielders in the world, ahead of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, with the Manchester United legend saying: “Vitina at PSG is great, he’s great.”
Last season was perhaps the former FC Porto player’s best season to date, as he played 17 games, scored two goals and provided two assists, and played a big role in PSG’s Champions League victory.
Vicinha could be an important signing for Liverpool, but given his importance to Enrique, it may be very difficult to praise the defensive midfielder from PSG.
