Liverpool remain interested in a potential move for Newcastle United central defender Sven Botman, who is also being tracked by Chelsea.
As first reported in my exclusive article for the Daily Briefing, Botman’s form at Newcastle has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea.
My sources say the Reds are keeping a close eye on the Dutchman and could make a move, while Chelsea have also been named as potential suitors.
The problem, however, is that Newcastle are also serious about keeping Botman and are expected to negotiate a new contract with the 25-year-old soon, as it is a top priority for new sporting director Ross Wilson.
Sven Botman transfer situation explained – can Newcastle keep Liverpool and Chelsea targets?
Sources in the industry say Newcastle are likely to do everything in their power to keep Botman, even if there is interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.
“There has been a change in Newcastle’s sporting director and there has been a delay in sorting out a new contract for Botman,” a source told me.
“However, signing Botman to a new contract is one of manager Ross Wilson’s top priorities. Newcastle are taking the situation calmly. They have no intention of selling him and he has not yet indicated he wants to leave.”
Sven Botman could fit well at Liverpool or Chelsea
The source added: “Slot believes Botman is a good fit. Liverpool are monitoring him closely and a move could be made.”
Another said: “Chelsea have been tracking Botman for a while.”
Botman could be an ideal fit as the Blues need an upgrade from unconvincing performers like Trevor Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.
The Magpies ace could also fit well into Arne Slott’s side if Ibrahima Konate leaves the club when his contract expires this summer.
