  • Manchester United have a big decision to make

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has played down the growing speculation surrounding Casemiro’s contract situation, insisting his current priority is for the team to remain focused on the ongoing campaign rather than long-term negotiations.

Speaking to the media ahead of United’s Premier League game against Tottenham, Amorim answered questions about the future of the veteran midfielder, whose contract with Casemiro expires at the end of the season.

However, the club has the option to extend his contract for a further 12 months.

“My aim is to continue to rely on Casemiro and Harry Maguire, who have similar contract issues.” Amorim said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but right now I’m fully focused on this season.”

Casemiro, who joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for a fee worth £70 million, has been an important part of the dressing room since arriving at Old Trafford.

Despite periods of inconsistent form last season, the Brazilian has reclaimed his place in Amorim’s midfield this season, forming a solid partnership with Bruno Fernandes and helping the Red Devils find greater balance in possession.

However, there are also economic considerations. Casemiro is one of the highest paid players in Manchester United’s squad, reportedly earning £350,000 a week.

The midfielder turns 34 in February, raising questions about whether United will trigger his extension clause or pursue younger options in the summer.

Internal discussions regarding the club’s wage structure and financial sustainability could play a decisive role in determining Casemiro’s future.

Still, Amorim’s comments make clear that Casemiro’s experience and leadership remain invaluable at this time.
