  • Liverpool push hard to sign Sven Botman
  • Signing Botman wasn’t easy.

Arne Slott could leave Liverpool Newcastle United’s defensive mainstay Sven Botman has been signed for 80 million euros.

Liverpool had a very active summer transfer window. They spent a lot of money to strengthen their offense, but now they are shifting their focus to defense.

Arne Slott is keen to strengthen his defensive rotation and a report from Ficages claims the Reds are considering signing Sven Botman in the next transfer window.

Botman has gone from strength to strength since joining Newcastle United from LOSC Lille in the summer of 2022. As well as establishing himself as a key figure in the team, the 25-year-old is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Liverpool push hard to sign Sven Botman

Liverpool consider him the perfect fit for their project. He has a strong physical presence, is reliable, and has good ball distribution. They believe he can add a big boost to their defensive rotation alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

The Merseyside club is considering making an offer of approx. They are set to earn €80m (about £70m) as they try to lure him away from the Tyneside club. After failing to sign Marc Guehi in the summer, the Reds have completely shifted their focus to Botman.

Signing Botman wasn’t easy.

They have been looking for a left-handed centre-back for some time and the Dutch centre-back could be the solution to a significant part of their problems. However, Newcastle are reluctant to sell him and he still has about 18 months left on his contract, so it won’t be easy to sign him.

However, he could also face competition from rivals Chelsea, who are also keen to sign him. The Blues have struggled defensively this season due to injuries to key players and are hoping to add more quality and depth by signing Botman.

The Magpies are looking to renew his contract to fend off potential suitors, but Newcastle could reconsider their position if they fail to secure his long-term future and receive a big money offer.
